2026 Year of the Horse Show (YOTH) – Fire Horse Edition
Location: Kyrewood Equestrian Park, 108 Oroua Road, Palmerston North
Dates: 18–19 April 2026
The 2026 Year of the Horse Show (YOTH) is an exciting new grassroots equestrian event
created by Intuitive Equine as a vibrant, community‑focused alternative following the cancellation of the Horse of the Year Show.
Designed for everyday riders of all ages and abilities – YOTH celebrates fun, affordability, and the joy of horses.
This inaugural edition embraces the theme “Fire Horse Edition”, honouring the Chinese Zodiac’s symbol of passion, bold action, and transformation.
Across two full days, riders, families, and the public will enjoy a diverse programme of competition, entertainment, education, and celebration.
Entry & Support for St John’s Ambulance
Entry for the public is by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going directly to support St John’s Ambulance. This approach ensures the event remains accessible and affordable for everyone, while also giving back to a vital community service crucial to horse riders. Your participation helps make a positive impact beyond the equestrian community.
Volunteer Opportunities
YOTH thrives on community spirit and welcomes volunteers of all ages and experience levels. There are a variety of roles available, from logistics and event setup to helping with classes, trade stands, and fun-focused activities like the “#FunFairies” – volunteers who ensure that everyone is Having Fun.
Volunteering at YOTH is a great way to connect with others, give back to the equestrian community, and be part of a joyful, grassroots event. Whether you’re an experienced horse person or simply want to contribute to a vibrant community gathering, your help is valued and appreciated
Kyrewood Reunion & Honouring the Gorton’s Legacy
A special highlight of the 2026 YOTH is the Kyrewood reunion, which celebrates the enduring legacy of Fred Gorton and Pauline Gorton in the local equestrian community. Kyrewood has been a foundational place for generations of riders, and the Gortons’ contributions as riding school founders and mentors are recognized and honoured at this event. The reunion brings together past and present members of the Kyrewood community, creating a sense of continuity and gratitude for the Gortons’ impact on countless horse lovers and riders.
